<title>Beyond mean regression</title>
<link>http://resolver.sub.uni-goettingen.de/purl?gs-1/10831</link>
<description>Beyond mean regression
Kneib, Thomas
Usual exponential family regression models focus on only one designated quantity of the&#13;
response distribution, namely the mean. While this entails easy interpretation of the estimated regression&#13;
effects, it may often lead to incomplete analyses when more complex relationships are indeed&#13;
present and also bears the risk of false conclusions about the significance/importance of covariates. We&#13;
will therefore give an overview on extended types of regression models that allows us to go beyond&#13;
mean regression. More specifically, we will consider generalized additive models for location, scale and&#13;
shape as well as semiparametric quantile and expectile regression. We will review the basic properties&#13;
of all three approaches and compare them with respect to the flexibility in terms of the supported types&#13;
of predictor specification, the availability of software and the support for different types of inferential&#13;
procedures. The considered model classes are illustrated using a data set on rents for flats in the City&#13;
of Munich.

<title>Treatment of palliative care emergencies by prehospital emergency physicians in Germany: an interview based investigation.</title>

<description>Treatment of palliative care emergencies by prehospital emergency physicians in Germany: an interview based investigation.
Wiese, C. H. R.; Bartels, U. E.; Ruppert, D.; Marung, H.; Luiz, T.; Graf, B. M.; Hanekop, G. G.
Palliative care medical emergencies as a consequence of advanced cancer account for&#13;
approximately 3% of all prehospital emergency cases. Therefore, prehospital emergency&#13;
physicians (EP) are confronted with ‘end of life decisions’. No educational content&#13;
exists concerning palliative medicine in emergency medicine curricula. Over the course&#13;
of 6 months, we interviewed 150 EPs about their experiences in ‘end of life decisions’&#13;
using a specific questionnaire. The total response rate was 69% (n = 104). Most of the&#13;
interviewed EPs (89%, n = 93) had been confronted with palliative care medical emergencies&#13;
and expressed uncertainties in dealing with these difficult situations, especially&#13;
in the area of psychosocial care of the patients (50%). The emergency treatment of palliative&#13;
care patients can become a particular challenge for any EP. A large percentage of&#13;
interviewed EPs felt uncertain about aspects of social care and in the assessment of&#13;
decisions at the end of life. Further information and training are necessary to amenable&#13;
EPs to provide adequate patient-oriented care to palliative care patients and their relatives&#13;
in emergency situations.

<description>Exactly Solvable Schrödinger Operators
Dereziński, Jan; Wrochna, Michał
We systematically describe and classify one-dimensional Schrödinger equations that can be solved in terms of hypergeometric type functions. Beside the well-known families, we explicitly describe two new classes of exactly solvable Schrödinger equations that can be reduced to the Hermite equation.

<title>Observations on Astraeospongium meniscum (Roemer, 1948) from the Silurian of western Tennessee; constructional morphology and palaeobiology of the Astraeospongiidae (Calcarea, Heteractinellidae)</title>
<link>http://resolver.sub.uni-goettingen.de/purl?gs-1/2206</link>
<description>Observations on Astraeospongium meniscum (Roemer, 1948) from the Silurian of western Tennessee; constructional morphology and palaeobiology of the Astraeospongiidae (Calcarea, Heteractinellidae)
Mehl, Dorte; Reitner, Joachim
Astraeospongium is found to form secondary calcareous basal skeletons and thus may be&#13;
attributed to the morphological grouping "coralline sponges". In A. meniscum, a bowl-shaped sponge with a&#13;
massive skeleton of octactins, the ontogenetically youngest and still uncemented spicules are found at the&#13;
upper, concave surface, particularly close to the edge. Towards the bottom, the spicules soon become&#13;
altered through epitaxic cementation and recrystallization. From this skeletal architecture can be inferred&#13;
that the soft tissues occupied only the uppermost portions of the basal skeleton. The skeletal structure is in&#13;
many respects similar to that of the recent Petrobiona massiliana, although the ecological adaptations of the&#13;
two species are fundamentally different.; Astraeospongium bildet ein sekundäres kalkiges Basalskelett und kann somit der&#13;
morphologischen Gruppierung "koralline Spongien" zugerechnet werden. In A. meniscum, ein schüsseIförmiger&#13;
Schwamm mit einem massiven Skelett aus Octactinen, befinden sich die ontogenetisch jüngsten&#13;
und noch unzementierten Spicula an der oberen, konkaven Seite, insbesondere nahe dem Rand. Zum Basis&#13;
hin ändern sich bald die Spicula durch epitaktische Zementation und Rekristallisation. Aufgrund dieser&#13;
Skelettarchitektur kann geschlossen werden, daß sich der Weichkörper nur in den obersten Bereichen des&#13;
Skeletts befand. Die Skelettstruktur ist der der rezenten Petrobiona massiliana in vielerlei Hinsicht ähnlich,&#13;
wenngleich sich die ökologischen Anpassungen der beiden Arten grundlegend unterscheidet.
